M.I.A gives middle finger at Madonna’s Halftime show at Super Bowl
Madonna’s halftime performance at the 2012 Super Bowl was a success as the singer’s amazing performance excited the crowd. However, there was still a bit of a controversy found when British Singer M.I.A extended her middle finger. The NFL as well as NBC did not waste any time in apologizing for the singer’s behavior.
Spokesman for the NFL, Brian McCarthy said that the obscene gesture during the performance was completely inappropriate. McCarthy said that it was also very disappointing and apologized to their fans. This year’s game with the New York Giants beating the New England Patriots 21-17 is expected to challenge last year’s Super Bowl as the most watched U.S Television event.
M.I.A is best known for her 2007 hit song “Paper Planes.” M.I.A. Grammy nominee for record of the year which features a sample of the song “Straight to Hell” was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. According to McCarthy the singer did not make any move like that during rehearsals and the league had no reason to expect her to do that during the actual show.
