Four Kates for Madam Tussards
A pop culture tradition that many of us look forward to is the unveiling of the various celebrity wax figures at the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum locations. A huge part of the buzz is that the resemblance of the waxed replicas are uncanny, to say the least.
So when it was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge, one of the most photographed women in the world, would be featured not one, but four times, it made perfect sense. Kate Middleton is, undoubtedly and understandably, famous. The Royal Wedding that took place on April 29, 2011, brought in an estimated 26.2 million viewers worldwide and in honor of Prince William and Princess Kate’s first anniversary, commemorative Barbie dolls will make their debut.
April is also the announced time for the release of the Kate Middleton wax figurines. Although, and perhaps surprisingly, the Duchess will not be featured in her beautiful lace Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen couture wedding gown, the four other looks that have been selected are almost as beloved and familiar to the public. Without question, as a fashion icon, these are some looks that have inspired some of the designs of 2012 prom dresses across the country.
At the New York location, the figurine simply known as the “Kate” will stand alone in a replicated version of the Alexander McQueen Grecian-style, pleated, silk lavender evening gown that she wore to the BAFTA Awards dinner in Los Angeles July 2011.
In Amsterdam, viewers will have the pleasure of seeing Kate in the amazing black, lace floor-length dress that she wore on the eve of her 30th birthday (January 9, 2012) at the premiere of the Steven Spielberg’s movie, “War House” in London.
In Blackpool, England, the Duchess will make her appearance in the sequined, shimmering, pale pink Jenny Packham gown that she debuted at the ARK Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace. This dress, reportedly created by one of Kate’s favorite designers, holds a sentimental value in the sense that it was her first time stepping out with Prince William, officially, as a married couple.
And then there’s the fourth look; the one that will be placed on display in London. This Kate figurine will not be standing alone. She will be alongside her husband, Prince William, in the stunning, royal blue Issa dress; the one that she wore when she and her fiancé announced their engagement to the public. This above the knee, long-sleeved fitted-yet-flowing find tends to be memorable for many because it also marks the debut of the perfect engagement accessory: the late Princess Diana’s blue sapphire engagement ring. It’s the one that Prince William proposed to Kate with and the one that the Duchess proudly wears today.
Since the unveiling of William IV back in 1835 when Madam Tussards first opened in London, the Royal Family has been immortalized in their museums. In keeping with that tradition, on April the New York, Amsterdam and London locations will showcase Kate for the first time on April 4,2011. Blackpool will follow on April 18, 2011.
