Wedding Planning Ideas for Sports Fanatics wed
For many engaged couples, sports is their main shared passion – besides one another of course! If you and your fiance consider yourselves to be the number one fans of your favorite team, it is only natural that your wedding will showcase your enthusiasm. From the outlandish to the subtle, these are some great wedding planning ideas for sports fanatics.
As every sports fan knows, one of the best ways to show your spirit is to proudly wear your team’s colors. There are plenty of ways in which you can apply this rule of fandom to your wedding. Many brides have opted to carry bouquets made from flowers in their team colors. It is usually pretty easy to find flowers in the hues you need, whether you bleed Vikings purple or live for the Crimson Tide. And if the primary color of your favorite team is not easily found in blossoms, it is a simple enough matter to bring the colors into your bouquet wrap.
Some couples like to take their love of sports to the next level. There will always be those couples who dress their bridesmaids in team jerseys with matching custom bridesmaid jewelry or the ones who choose tuxedos in team colors (ouch!). You could even mention your loyalty in your wedding vows. One couple I knew had a very traditional wedding with elegant dresses, crystal bridal and bridesmaid jewelry, and a formal band. However, they wrote their own vows, and in his, the groom pledged that he would never interrupt his bride if she was watching a Yankees playoff game. A good thing too, since he had made that mistake once before and it almost ended the relationship!
Another fantastic idea for sports lovers is to make your grand entrance at the reception to your team’s fight song. Your team doesn’t have a song or it’s not to your liking? Then perhaps you can have your bridal party shout out their motto when you arrive at the reception. Imagine all the bridesmaids and groomsmen shouting, “Go ye Huskies!” at a wedding in Connecticut, or “Who Dat?!” when the world’s greatest New Orleans Saints fans make their appearance at a wedding with a fleur-de-lis motif. Your guests will go wild!
The groom’s cake has got to be one of the favorite ways to show off your team pride. Even if the rest of your wedding is very traditional, you can surprise him with a cake made to resemble the stadium where your team plays, their logo, or the shape of their ball. Or if the bride is the true sports fanatic in the house, maybe the groom surprises her with a team cake, why not? The wedding favors are also a natural place to show your spirit. You could have cookies made to look like your quarterback’s jersey, give out baseballs printed with your wedding date, or create a candy bar with sweets done entirely in your team colors.
There are countless additional ways that sports lovers can show their spirit. It might be wedding programs designed to look like game programs, seating charts in the shape of a stadium, or escort cards that look like admission tickets. There have even been wedding cakes made in two colors to show the bride and groom’s competing team loyalties. Incorporating your love of sport into your wedding is a great way to make it fun and unique.
