BASSETERRE – ST KITTS – National Heroes Day, which is celebrated on September 16, and which this year falls on a Sunday, will be celebrated on Monday 17th September 2012 and that day will be declared a public holiday.

With Monday September 17 declared National Heroes Day, the traditional Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Memorial Park at St. Paul’s.

Cabinet also approved that the National Independence State Service will be held on Sunday 16th September.

The Independence theme selected for the 29th Anniversary of National Independence is “Cherishing Children, Strengthening Families.”

“The theme recognises the well-being of our nation’s children and the stability of families as central to our overall social and economic prosperity,” said Minister of Information, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty.

He said that Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Joseph Edmeade gave the ministers a progress report on the planning of the 2012 Independence Celebration Activities and assured the Cabinet of Ministers that the planning process was in full gear and being directed by a committee chaired by Ms Sharon Rattan, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Social Development and Gender Affairs.
