A 50-50 split may be in the best interest of NBA Players

A 50-50 split may be in the best interest of NBA PlayersNBA players may have a choice on Saturday whether or not they accept the 50-50 split of basketball related income. If not the players risks more owners joining and insisting on a 53-47 split and hard salary cap. Unless both sides can compromise on positions and come to a decision then talks may break down.

Players have been looking to get 52.5 of revenues in their favor and a group of players have discussed decertification of the union if forced to accept less than 52.  Both sides resumes talk on Saturday 5th November 2011 with George Cohen as federal mediator. The threat of losing this NBA season is at a high risk and if huge progress isn’t made this weekend division between the two sides may grow even further apart.

The major issues are about the division of revenues as well as Commissioner David Stern wanting to have a makeover in the system. Stern is trying to reshape the NBA league by introducing a system like that of the NFL and NHL where spending is capped and small market teams can compete with big ones.
