NBA meets in hopes of ending NBA lockout
NBA players and owners meet again on Wednesday 26th October 2011 for more than hours to try and end lockout. Both sides met at the table in a small group meeting after 3 previous days of intense mediation that did not produce a labor deal. Talks failed last Thursday when according to players owners wanted them to agree to a 50-50 split deal for revenues.
The first two weeks game has been cancelled and hopes of saving any game in November is quickly disappearing. David Stern expressed his concerns that there would not be any games in December if a deal was not met since last week. Stern who was ill with the flu missed last Thursday’s session but rejoins talks today.
Deputy Commissioner, Adam Silver, Peter Holt who is the owner of San Antonio Spurs, Glen Taylor and James Dolan all joined Stern today. Billy Hunter is the executive director representing the union. Derek Fisher is president, Maurice Evans Vice President along with attorney Ron Klempner and economist Kevin Murphy were all in attendance.
The players have lowered there proposal to 52.2 percent of basketball related income. The sides are now $100 million apart annually based on the revenues from last season. Under the previous bargaining collective agreement players were guaranteed 57 percent of BRI.
