NBA owners wants to put more games in jeopardy
The NBA league is looking beyond this month and possibly this season if that is what it takes for them to implement an extreme financial makeover after years of huge losses. According to Spurs owner, Peter Holt the goal is to make a few bucks. Owners are trying to reshape the league by creating a system such as the NHL and NFL.
The system that the NBA league is trying to develop is to get spending capped and small market teams to compete with the big boys. For the NHL to get there they had a long period of lockout that wiped out their entire 2004-2005 season. However, the NFL is making money and not losing like the NBA.
After NBA talks on Thursday, Peter Holt was asked if owners might sit out a year in order to get the changes they want. Holt, is the chairman of the owners relations committee. According to a statement by Holt, he said that they certainly don’t want to lose the season and that the NHL probably didn’t either though it happened.
Holt also said that there were certain things that they feel they must have. Executive director, Billy Hunter was not surprised by this as 2 or 3 years ago he begun to believe that the owners intended to lock out the players in order to force the changes they wanted. The first 2 weeks of the NBA season has already been cancelled and it won’t be long before more games are cancelled as well.
