Early indications are that Nokia’s latest range of Windows 8 devices are proving a hit with consumers. Models such as the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 are selling out in various markets across the globe and it seems as though Nokia’s marketing plays a big part in the success that these handsets are achieving.
When it comes to introducing a new smartphone to the market Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop has commented that the Finnish company prefer to take a “less is more” approach. What he means by this is that the company normally look to launch flagship devices such as the Nokia Lumia 920 on a limited number of networks. Although this means that the handsets are perhaps not as accessible as alternative devices it does create an air of exclusivity that surround the model. Mr Elop recently spoke to popular site CNet and he stated “One of the things we had learned with the first launch was being very narrow would yield better results for us”. By limiting the availability of the phone it enables Nokia to request that the chosen networks promote the model as one of their premium handsets. This seems to be working well but of course a big factor in this is the popularity of the OS that the handset uses. Windows 8 still falls well behind the likes of Android and iOS for popularity but early adoption rates for version 8 are higher than expected and steady growth is predicted for 2013. The show piece model however is unquestionably the Lumia 920 which boasts super specification that can rival the very best phones out there. A large 4.5 inch display is boasted by the model and this is teamed with a powerful 1.5Ghz dual core processor. The Lumia 820 sit just below this model in the range and is a superb option for people wanting a slightly cheaper option in terms of cost while the new Lumia 620 which is set for a 2013 release will appeal to a younger market and also consumers purchasing their very first smartphone.
