Comparing Software And Screen Technology Of The iPhone 4S And Samsung Galaxy S3

The Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 4S are the two manufacturers’ flagship smartphones. Below I am going to take a look at a few of the noteworthy attributes of the devices, to see how they compare against one another.

Operating System

One of the major differences between these smartphones is the software that each utilizes. The iPhone 4S naturally runs iOS, which is Apple’s custom smartphone and tablet OS. It has the iOS 5 version installed, though this is can be upgraded for the recently released iOS 6 version. iOS is famous due to the uncomplicated layout and simple to use format, downloadable applications from the AppStore, and of course a number of native apps like iTunes, iPod, and Siri and so forth. The Galaxy S3 however features the current version of Android which is v4.0, also called ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. This operating system is well known for the high levels of customisation which users can attain, in addition to Google Play which provides downloadable apps. The Samsung Galaxy S3 runs with TouchWiz which is Samsung’s custom Android user interface. This offers more customisation options plus an alternative visual visual appearance to the standard Android UI. To say that any of these operating systems is superior to the other would be unjust, because they’re too different to compare, and certainly one of the main attributes which sets both phones apart from one another.

Displays

The iPhone 4S is famous for the outstanding quality of its touchscreen. Following its predecessor the iPhone 4, it’s the only handset with Apple’s famous retina screen. This allows for practically unmatched display quality as a result of a pixel resolution of 640x 960 in its 3.5 inch Ips screen. Though the touchscreen is fairly small in comparison to that of lots of competing phones, it makes up for this with its display quality. The retina display results in users not being able to differentiate between individual pixels. Because of this images, games, videos and the UI generally appear in the best display quality. The Samsung Galaxy S3 includes a significantly bigger touchscreen which measures 4.8 inches, and utilises Super AMOLED touchscreen technology as does its predecessor the Galaxy S2. The Galaxy S3 possesses an even higher pixel resolution of 720x 1280, so in conjunction with the large size of the screen makes it a great choice for frequent viewers of multimedia content.

Even though the Galaxy S3 is a more modern phone and for that reason comes with a range of more innovative specifications in comparison to the Apple iPhone 4S, it is likely to face tough competition from the iPhone 5 when it is launched later this year.
