New data shows Apple iPhone 5 outsold by Samsung Galaxy S3 in the UK

New data has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has outsold the Apple iPhone 5 in the UK. This is despite Apple’s largely hyped launch.

According to comparison site uSwitch, UK network operators have sold more units of the Galaxy S3 compared to units of the iPhone 5 via phone deals in September. This data, however, does not include phones that have been purchased SIM-free. The new iPhone only managed to nab 5th place on the comparison site’s hotlist.

The iPhone 5 was officially released on the 21st of September, but was available for pre-order starting on the 14th of the same month. Combined with the new iPhone’s pre-orders with its sales in Apple stores, Apple shifted more than 5 million units globally in just the third day after the new kit was released. By comparison, the iPhone 4S only hit 5 million on its first month. Judging from how well the new iPhone is currently selling, we’re expecting more stellar sales from Apple.

On the flipside, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been on sale in stores since May. You may think that sales of the Korean tech giant’s flagship has slowed significantly down, since it has been around for quite some time now. However, this isn’t the case. It is still on top of uSwitch’s hotlist.

The comparison site’s data, however, only includes the amount of phones purchased from phone deals and not handsets purchased SIM-free. This means that we can’t be certain if the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still the top-selling smartphone in the UK and not the Apple iPhone 5. We’ll have to look at more figures from different sources to be certain.

Do you believe the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still the top-selling smartphone in the UK despite the arrival of the Apple iPhone 5? Share your opinion through a comment below.
