It is sad how the promising HTC One continues to be overshadowed by the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S4. Despite of the latter being introduced earlier than the Galaxy S4, it continues to shy away from its actual shipping date. Missing its opportunity to outshine Samsung’s latest flagship.
Now, according to recent reports, a company executive is blaming the HTC One’s camera for its delay. This is mainly due to the lack of supply for its Ultrapixel camera component.
HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer Benjamin Ho confirmed the said component shortage in his interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Ho said: “Our friends in the media have been asking why there has been a delay in shipments for the new HTC One, whether there is a component shortage,” he also added “There is some shortage, because the phone’s camera was designed specifically for us, and production cannot be ramped up so quickly.”
His comments simply mirrored those of an “unnamed HTC executive” who recently spoke with the Wall Street Journal about the phone’s shipment being delayed. The said unnamed exec also blamed HTC’s falling status amongst its suppliers.
“The company has a problem managing its component suppliers as it has changed its order forecasts drastically and frequently following last year’s unexpected slump in shipments,”
“HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer.”
Last Friday, HTC announced that its latest flagship device the HTC One would finally land in the UK, Germany, and Taiwan this week. It will then be followed by North America, Asis-Pacific region, Europe, and other markets release by the end of April.
Ho was also candid about HTC’s failure to generate enough marketing hype for its products.
Ho added: “We have a lot of innovations but we haven’t been loud enough”.
HTC also plans to drop its “Quietly Brilliant” tagline, this is as part of their move toward a bolder marketing strategy. HTC is also said to devote more money to promote its products.
