iPhone 5 loves the new Google Maps

It was last September when Google’s Maps app was booted out of the Apple iOS platform. It is only this month that the missing Google maps app returned to the iPhone via the new Google Maps app specially created for the iPhone 5. The new Google Maps app is finally here and yet criticisms for the infamous iOS 6 Maps app still lingers (which sadly came pre-installed on the iOS 6 and of course the new iPhone 5).

“Navigate your world with Google Maps, now available for iPhone. Get comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps with built-in Google local search, voice guided turn-by turn navigation, public transit directions, Street View and more” this is how the Google Maps app was described.

iPhone owners can now use Google Maps app to  “discover great places to eat, drink, shop and play, with ranting and reviews from people you trust.”

Yes, this new Google Maps app is optimised for the iPhone 5, Google said that this new maps app is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod Touch (3rd gen and up), and iPad and for those that uses the iOS 5 or later iOS.

CNET gave praises to the new Google Maps app for the iOS.

According to them, it boast a brilliant interface, Street View, and turn-by-turn directions. They also added that it comes with the right location search and with extensive points of interest. But they’ve also noted that there is no dedicated iPad app for this new Maps app and that the app’s 3D satellite view requires switching to Google Earth app. But again, they say that it   “sets the standard for what mobile navigation should be and more,” it also added ”Absolutely, it runs circles around the much-lampooned Apple maps. Yet, it’s also vastly improved over not only the Google Maps we had back in iOS 5, but also the version accessible through the iOS browser”.

The new Google Maps app for iOS was downloaded about 10 Million times in its first 48 hours. It only shows that more people love the new Google Maps app for iOS than the much-maligned iOS 6 Maps app.
