The Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system is soon to be officially launched by Microsoft. To showcase the new software, a handful of manufacturers are gearing up to release several new smartphone models. Among these is Nokia. The Finnish manufacturer will be launching two new models to showcase the new software, the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. The Nokia Lumia 920 will be the company’s flagship Windows handset, and there has been a lot of hype surrounding the build up to its launch. It has been hailed as one of the most significant and impressive releases from the manufacturer to date.
Because of the popularity of devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 4S, which have dominated the market over the last year, Nokia and a number of other manufacturers have failed to make a significant impression on the smartphone market. This looks set to change with the Lumia 920 though. Because the Apple iPhone 5 has not sold at the levels many people expected it to, it will give Nokia a great opportunity to appeal to those seeking alternatives to iOS devices. It has recently been reported that pre-order stock of the Lumia 920 has sold out in Italy. Although many people believe that its €599 price tag was too steep, it appears that this is not been an issue for Italian consumers. Around 10% of Italian smartphone users own a device with Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, making it one of the software’s biggest market shares.
One of the best known retailers and America, Best Buy has recently made the Nokia Lumia 920 available for pre-order on its website. However, just a day after this was made available, the web page was taken down. No official statement has yet been given as to the reason, but it has left many people to speculate that like in Italy, all of the pre-order allocated handsets have sold out.
The Nokia Lumia 920 his set to launch in the UK next month, where it will initially be offered exclusively via Everything Everywhere, and O2 has already confirmed that it will be carrying the device when the exclusivity period with EE has ended.
