Microsoft has recently launched Windows Phone 8, its latest mobile operating system, which launched alongside a number of handsets running the software. Sadly, a number of users are reporting their new handsets randomly rebooting.
The two smartphones affected by the issue are the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X. Owners have complained about the random reboots in a variety of support forums. Lumia 920 owners are also reporting power not lasting long enough and bricking the phone.
Owners have vented their frustrations on WPCentral. Complaints can also be found on Microsoft and Nokia support forums. The complaints started to pour in early November, as soon as the new phones went on sale.
Mberdych, a poster in WPCentral who started one of the threads, wrote, “So far, within 3 days of use, I have had 2 random reboots. Device just suddenly reboots itself, ending in PIN screen. Quite annoying.”
Among the 2 handsets in question, the Nokia Lumia 920 is the device that is the most affected. Not only are owners experiencing random reboots, they are also reporting poor battery life. You may think that a factory reset will resolve the issue, but this will only make things worse. Owners who have done a factory reset have bricked the handset.
On WPCentral, Brian McBride said, “I thought I’d hard reset my phone and start from scratch to see if I could get better battery life. Now it is stuck on the Nokia splash screen. Resetting it with the buttons only causes a vibrate, the AT&T logo, then back to the Nokia splash screen.”
Microsoft, HTC, or Nokia are yet to mention anything official about the problem.
